Our Story
Angelina Cat Sanctuary
At Angelina Cat Sanctuary, we understand that our strength lies not just in words, but primarily in our actions.
It all began in 2019 during the rapid spread of the COVID pandemic across the globe. During this time, our feline companions, the cats, needed support more than ever. They required shelter, food, veterinary care, and sterilization. Recognizing the urgency, we decided to take action on the island of Corfu, where a small group of volunteers and organizations were struggling to manage the cat population amidst the impact on tourism due to the presence of stray cats everywhere.
The summer of 2021 was particularly challenging as we were inundated with abandoned kittens from tourists. These kittens needed fostering, care, food, and a home. By the end of that summer, our Sanctuary was already caring for 104 cats, with adult cats being neutered and plans for sterilization of the fostered kittens. The large number of cats in our care presented additional challenges, requiring winter accommodations to protect them from the rain and wind.
We successfully built a sheltered area for the cats, providing a safe space for the adults, while the kittens were kept indoors in our own home, where they received warmth, food, and love.
That's why we decided to launch the Angelina Cat Sanctuary page, understanding that increased visibility will benefit the cats and their quest for a better life. 💞
